What is a Specified Skilled Worker?
Specified skilled workers are foreign workers who have specialized knowledge and skills required in specific industrial fields under Japan's Specified Skills System.
Specified skilled workers are classified into two types of residence status: "Type 1" and "Type 2." Specified skilled workers can work in 12 fields under Type 1 and 11 fields under Type 2.
This system was established in 2019 to make up for the worsening labor shortage in Japan.
